Amazing Experience

This past weekend was absolutely amazing! Over 400 athletes all descended on the Meadowbrook Athletic Complex to compete in the Mid-Atlantic Affiliate Challenge (MAAC). The MAAC is a two day CrossFit competition that pits teams of 4 (2 M and 2F) against one another to see which team is the fittest. (Is fittest a word?) There was another team there though. There was a medical team, and I was given the opportunity to be apart of that team of EMT's, Nurses, Massage Therapists, Physical Therapists, and ONLY ONE chiropractor.

The weekend was truly electric, especially watching all of these tremendous competitors push themselves to their limit. Every single one of them left it all on the floor. Despite all of these athletes giving it everything that they've got, there were virtually no serious injuries during the event. Think about that for a second you had about 400 people all doing at least 5 workouts over a 2 day period and there were NO SIGNIFICANT injuries... The most significant injury that I had the opportunity to help assess and treat was a fairly significantly sprained ankle. There were several scrapes and cuts, and a little heat exhaustion, but NO ONE left the facility to go to the hospital. There may have been some injuries (lots of strains and muscular soreness) that I am sure didn't show up until the following day... I can honestly say that this weekend provided a tremendous opportunity to work with these athletes but also gave me the opportunity to learn from other providers, AND have a really good time!

Here are some of the best messages that I received this weekend from patients, athletes, and the Medical Director of the MAAC:
