People ask us all the time what our Freedom Strength classes are like. We try to explain them to the best of our ability... They are VERY small (No more than 6 people) group fitness classes, with an emphasis on first learning to move well, and then moving often!

Classes begin with 15-20 minutes of warm-up! To most people that sounds like a lot of time spent, but that time is an investment in getting the most out of your training session. After the warm-up, focus shifts to improving a skill, or simply getting stronger with a movement that we may already know. Each class then finishes with a 10-15 minute metabolic conditioning session, which is to say we want to get your heart rate up!

After reading through that whole explanation of the class structure, you may be wondering why it is set up that way. The short answer is that we are interested in training for longevity. Each athlete (yes I said "athlete" because as Bill Bowerman said "If you have a body, you are an athlete.") should be able to train again the day after a Freedom Strength class!

The idea of Training for Longevity is not only about training to get fitter and stronger, but about extending our health span. Our health span is completely different than our life span. The term health span refers to how long we are healthy, as opposed to life span which refers to how long we live. Would you want to live to be 100, if you stop being healthy (and enjoying life) at 75? That is not what we should expect out of life. Here is a quick video that was published in Canada about the difference between a long health span vs. a long life span. You choose your path!
